issuu.com/wnyfamilymagazine/docs/june_2025  If you are looking to take a spring road trip, a great destination is to take a drive along the Cayuga Lake Scenic Byway, which has been voted one of the 10 Great All American Road Trips. It's an 87 mile long loop trail. start at the north end of Cayuga Lake, off Route 5 & 20, and head down the west side of the Lake on Route 89, where you will pass numerous wineries and beautiful scenery. Be sure to stop at Taughonnock Falls to view the 215 foot tall waterfall. You can either view it from the overlook parking lot upper viewing area or if you are ambitious, park in the lower parking lot (paid lot) and hike the easy .75 flat hiking trail to the base of the falls. After viewing the falls, continue driving through Ithaca (lots to see and do here, more about it in future blog posts.) Then head up the east side of the lake to get back to your starting point. A visit to Troy, NYIn my travels when working on the second edition of my book Backroads and byways of Upstate New York, I tried to visit unique places that are off the beaten trail. One of those places is Famous Lunch in Troy, NY, which is located north of the Albany area. They have been in business since 1932.
Famous Lunch is, well, famous for their "world famous hot dogs", specifically their 3 inch long mini hot dogs, which are made locally in Troy. Their daily special is four hot dogs and a beverage for $8. While they do serve a variety of other foods, such as pancakes, breakfast sandwiches, omelets, hamburgers, and sandwiches, you really have to try the hot dogs! Famous Lunch is located at 111 Congress Street in Troy. Open Monday-Saturday 7am-9pm.   While most people think about visiting waterfalls during the warmer months, waterfalls also have a certain beauty during the winter. In January of 2023 my youngest son started an internship at a company in Ithaca. Since my husband and I had just visited Ithaca the previous summer and had enjoyed seeing the many waterfalls in the area, we decided to show our son where some of them were located when we were helping him get settled in the area, so that he could enjoy visiting them again during the warmer months. Above are a couple photos of Buttermilk Falls, one taken in February, the other taken in August. Welcome to my new blog where I will post information about my travels throughout Upstate New York when I was writing the second edition of my book Backroads and Byways of Upstate New York, which will be available in stores in July 2025. This blog is a new endeavor for me, so please be patient with me as I learn the technical aspects of posting a blog on the Weebly platform.
